Mulch Calculator

How to measure for mulch

How much mulch you need.

The easiest way to calculate the square footage of your space is to simply break your yard into rectangles. To calculate the square footage, simply multiply L (length) x W (width) = SQFT (total square feet). As an example, let’s say the area you want to cover is 6’ by 5’. This equation would be: 6’ (L) x 5’ (W) = 30 this equals 30 square feet.

Footage Estimates

Some areas will require a minimum depth like equestrian arenas. Other areas will require more depth like in the case of commercial playgrounds. Here you will have an idea of the uses, amounts of rubber mulch required, footage estimates and pricing according to your project.

Depth

Equestrian footing (1" to 1.5")

Landscaping (2" to 3")

Residential Playgrounds (3" to 4")

Commercial Playgrounds (6" ASTM Safety Guidelines)

Amount Required

1 Ton covers approximately:

900 sqft at 1" depth

600 sqft at 1.5" depth

450 sqft at 2" depth

300 sqft at 3" depth

225 sqft at 4; depth

180 sqft at 5" depth

150 sqft at 6" depth
